Mrs Efua Ghartey of Ghartey and Ghartey Barristers and Solicitors has been elected as the new President of the Ghana Bar Association.
Efua Ghartey becomes the first female Ghana Bar Association president after 39 years since the association was formally constituted.
She takes over from Yaw Boafo, who has been leading the Ghana Bar Association for the past four years.
Efua Ghartey contested against Yaw Boafo in but lost the position. However, she beat off stiff opposition from Agbesi Dzakpasu who she contested against this year.
Efua Gartey garnered 1,208 while Kwadzo Dzakpasu secured votes.
In her acceptance speech she said “I am humbled and honored to be the first female President of the Ghana Bar Association, this indeed is something new that the bar for the first time has entrusted leadership to the ladies.
“We shall make you proud. We shall make sure that you never regret this choice. What we ask for moving forward is that not only do you pray for us but also hold our hands,” said Efua Ghartey.
“I pledge to work tirelessly to promote the interests of lawyers, to protect the rule of law, and to advance the cause of justice in Ghana.”
Efua Ghartey will run the Bar Association with the support of Victori Barth who is the Vice President.
Other Executive Members include Bafforu Gyau who is the secretary, Aurelius Awuku Assistant secretary; Saviour Kudze who is the Public Relations Officer and Lawrencia Adika who is the Assistant Public Relations Officer.

Meanwhile, their inauguration has been scheduled to take place on Monday, November 4, 2024.
The outgoing president, in a statement, indicated that GBA feels “proud to have Efua Ghartey as its first female President” indicating that they are ready to work with her.
