First Deputy Majority Chief Whip of Ghana’s Parliament, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu has been credited for reconciling factions within the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the Savelegu Constituency leading to compromises.
The Constituency was going into the polls with a fragmented front as a former Constituency Secretary was lacing his boots to contest against the party’s candidate Hajia Fatahiya Abdul-Aziz as an Independent Candidate.
According to the party, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu who is also the Member of Parliament(MP) for Tolon Constituency was tasked by the national hierarchy of the party to ensure that cool head prevailed.
Following a series of meetings with both factions, a compromise was reached and Sheikh Abubakari Bawa agreed to throw his support behind the NPP candidate.
Speaking on his decision, he was full of praise to the Tolon Lawmaker for his timely intervention and the maturity he exhibited in dealing with the matter which has satisfied all the aggrieved parties.
“While stepping down, I endorse the NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Hajia Fatahiya. This campaign is not just about winning; it is about restoring integrity in our communities, restoring the broken dreams of the people of Savelugu under the incumbent MP’s incompetence, and building Savelugu for the future. I see that future in Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, the NPP PC.” He added.
“I truly appreciate everyone for their kind support, including our revered traditional leaders. Your wisdom and guidance have been invaluable. The team is very grateful to the MP for Tolon Constituency, the First Majority Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Habib Iddrisu, who initiated this reconciliation and my decision to step down as an independent candidate.” He disclosed.
